A tuna once sold for $1.8 million, but you can get cans of tuna fish for less than $2 at the grocery store. So, what’s the difference?

1:05 do I misunderstand or how is there a clip saying: if we were to import tuna from japan' and another saying: they import from japan
It’s funny how this “tuna’s” story mirrors our modern society. We chase education, marriage, success, property the whole checklist of a “good life.” But in the end, we’re all just swimming in a bigger ocean ruled by markets, systems, and appetites that see us as products, not people. The tuna did everything “right,” yet still ended up on someone’s plate. Maybe that’s the point that comfort and success don’t mean freedom. Sometimes, we mistake a well-decorated fish tank for the ocean.
In this video, they All are talking about Blue Fin Tuna from Japan, they are all very Wrong, the Japanese people come to Hawaii, every year to Buy up the Tuna market in Honolulu Hawaii every Year, because in Hawaii, they Fleet's going out to Hunt for Tuna fish, And there a lot of different varieties of Tuna in the Pacific Rim area, Tuna fish don't like Cold Weather, they prefer the warmer weather conditions, which the Pacific Ocean has to offer, and I've gone down to the Auction Houses, when the Fleet comes back to Honolulu docks, and I know that the Japanese people can afford to pay those outrageous Prices, with there Japanese Yen. Besides there's No Beef in Japan, so they Splurge on Beef Steaks, Pork Anything and Chicken anything, they ship them back to Japan, via overnight Express, DHL, FedEx or USPS, they are Flash Frozen, never on ships, but I look for Yellowfin Tuna, and I know what to look for, like a Rainbow in the Belly or Toro Section, but Tuna Fishing in Hawaii is a Huge business,Dole and Del Monte are gone, like C and H Sugar, it's called Land Values. And I have a couple of canned tuna,in my cupboards, like canned Sardines Kippers and Mackerel and canned Salmon, great as a snack with crackers and Cheese,or on a Quick bite,I ate Them growing up in Honolulu Hawaii, like Fresh Mangoes, Lychee Dragon Eye Papaya's, Guava Juice, Macadamia Nuts,Kona Coffee,All the Tropical Stuff, when I get a Craving for Fresh Tuna,I head to Chinatown in lower Manhattan, they have the biggest selection of Fresh Seafood, like going to the Bronx at Hunts Point Mega Market's, because I used to work there at 4 AM.
i’m gonna trust a white guy that claims he worked in japan for 10 years, but still pronounces ootoro like an uncultured swine?
eating fish is irresponsible to protect japan finance? lol
Spend 1.8 million dollars just to become shhhitt 🤣 it is crazy
6:15: “If you eat Pacific Bluefin Tuna not specifically from Japan, then that's really irresponsible.”
Wait… so if I eat a Pacific Bluefin from California, I’m irresponsible now? Even if it swam all the way from Japan? 😂 Why though?
Is the reason why you should only get pacific salmon from Japan because their population is more stable there?
and we wonder why there almost all gone
is it normal that bluefin tuna makes me salivate haha thats why
The last blade was too sharp. Tarkus, Iron Knight. Say your prayers. AZYMA.🌹
Yeah. That Fukushima fish is what I want! Radioactive baby!
Getting tuna from places other than Japan is NOT irresponsible.
Just because the rest of the world has ruined their fish stocks.
I am lucky enough to be able to fish for southern bluefin tuna with a fishing rod where i live in southern Australia. First class, wild caught fish up to and over 200lbs. Best in the world. Hands down. No middle man, no auction. Absolutely delicious.
I wonder what exactly they did with that million dollar tuna
More middle man and more money will cost.
Why is it irresponsible? Plenty of Bluefin on the east coast and mediterranean…
❤
I like it
Why just worth that much😮.that mean 8–9 dollar per single gram???? Can anyone explain😢
I will auction my tin tuna for 1.1 million any bid ?
If you eat bluefin from japan, you're an idiot they over fish and dont preserve the population near as good as just about any other Western nation he's biased af
So it sitting out like that won't it go bad
Wanna know who's irresponsible? Moroccan and Spanish fishermen they don't care about the size of the fish or what species they catch while fishing for Tuna.. Moroccans especially, they catch a shark instead of Tuna and they don't release it, they take it to market hundreds of sharks mostly and end up in Asian countries to make skin care products lol
Bluethuna in senegal are more affordable , we buy it for 5 $ per kilo
Why does this illustrator sound exactly like veritasim
Overpriced and overrated ! Just like A G class or a Range Rover, they keep the supply low and the demand high so they can charge this crazy prices !
this is insane
It's so expensive because humans are greedy no other reason .
I tried bluefin in Tunisia because my father is a tuna fisherman.
the best part is around the belly, because of the distribution of the fat marbling
and I can guarantee that it is as good as the one sold in Japan because it is exported to Japan (after the feeding process, of course)
That's it! I've come up with a new recipe!
Gross
In the Philippines yellow fin tuna is expensive the blue fin tuna,
And their price range around $4 or 180 to 200 pesos per kilo
0:11 in 2023 it would cost ~4 million dollars
before even starting the video I knew he was gonna use the word whopping
I had a meal that included a single 1" x 2" x 1/4" piece of tuna that was heavily striated with fat, marbled and beautiful. I didn't even KNOW what I was tasting, but it was just LOVELY, something of a revelation, really. Like butter. I don't think I'll get another opportunity to taste that again, but I'm glad I got to, just once. (That said, I'm happy with a good steak too.)
the restaurants in Maine surprisingly don't know what to do with the fat marbling part of bluefin. they don't want it, we keep getting complaints if the get to much of it LOL we sell it as bluefin no matter what part of the fish it is, I was really surprised how good it is when seasoned correctly i bet people that say they don't like the taste of fish will most likely think this taste like steak.
Darn got hungry watching this, will eat tuna tomorrow😂
Great ep, love sushi, love fishing and sustainability is very important. But this guys seems like a twat.
Not long ago larg blue fin tuna showed up in algeria Mediterranean Sea which is not known to the Fisher men, does that mean it doesn't cost as much if it lots its way threw the sea?
Scams, just fish
Hey Let it live 🙁
